Basic Diplomacy Course - designed for junior MFA employees and attaché interns working at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The duration of the course is from 12 to 14 weeks with lessons centered on a wide range of topics separated into different modules. At the end of the course students are required to prepare a report on a political subject and present it in front of a committee, assigned by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The aim of the course is to provide its students with a sound foundation of skills and knowledge essential for their future career in the sphere of diplomacy.
Training course for mid-career diplomats - tailored specifically for diplomats II and IIIrd rank Secretary. The training programme consists of a number of modules throughout the year which allows the students to successfully combine them with their work schedule. Its main focus is providing Bulgarian diplomats with a broader foundation of knowledge by means of lectures and discussions by renowned speakers with sufficient experience in International Relations.
Consular Diplomacy Course - a specialized course for Bulgarian consular employees worldwide as well as administration staff working in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The duration of the programme is one month. It consists both of specialized practical activities typical for the duties of a consul and of issues that might arise in the course of the work. The course is compulsory for pre-mandate preparation of all employees dispatched to their diplomatic mandates overseas.
Defence Diplomacy Course - tailored specially for military personnel whose work is directly linked to International Relations area. Students are nominated by the Ministry of Defence, the G.S. Rakovski Military Academy and the Defence Headquarters. The training is 1 month long and it includes discussions, interactive learning exercises and lectures focused on the similarities between diplomatic and military service.
Energy Diplomacy Course - true to their aspiration to present up-to-date learning opportunities on current topics, the Diplomatic Institute in cooperation with the Dutch Clingendael Institute organize a one-week course aimed at diplomats’ preparation for work in the Energy Diplomacy field.
Diplomacy course for public administration officials - in relation to the international activity of state administration, the BDI organizes a specialized diplomatic training for public administration officials. Its main purpose is to increase the understanding of tendencies and connections in International Relations and thus ensure the better positioning of Bulgaria on the international scene.
Foreign diplomats training programme - using both its broad experience in organizing diplomatic courses and its numerous contacts with lecturers working in the International Relations sphere, the BDI carries out a Foreign diplomats training programme with duration and discussion topics tailored specifically in regard to the country’s current issues. The course is conducted in English. Classes are organized for diplomats from Georgia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kosovo. Since 2006 the Diplomatic Institute has been organizing a course for junior employees at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan as part of Bulgaria’s obligation to help in the building of the Islamic republic’s administration capacity. Winter School of Diplomacy – Since 2006 the Diplomatic Institute has been organizing a Winter School of Diplomacy for young diplomats from the Balkans and the Black Sea region. Nowadays the Winter School of Diplomacy is extending its programme to include participants from the EU member countries and institutions. The duration of the course is one week throughout which lectures, discussions and presentations are incorporated into the classes that are centred on a certain topic. To young diplomats who are about to find their place in the field of International Diplomacy the classes offer a platform for an exchange of opinions and the opportunity to start building their own network of contacts.
Foreign language training programme - taking into consideration the undeniable need and obligation of every diplomat to increase and hone their language skills, the Diplomatic Institute offers MFA employees the opportunity to study a wide range of languages including English, French, German, Spanish, Russian and Italian. The language courses are carried out with the cooperation of the Cultural and Information centers to the respective foreign diplomatic missions in Sofia or with leading foreign language departments.
The Diplomatic Institute has adopted a diverse public policy aiming to promote its initiatives and reinforce its contribution to raising the standard of knowledge and skills of diplomatic employees as well as supporting the cultivation of positive attitude of the general public towards the diplomatic profession as well as Bulgaria’s Foreign Policy.
Public lectures - In its desire to engage the public in discussion of current issues in the field of International Policy, the Diplomatic Institute has been organising an annual series of public lectures. The speakers are mainly prominent public figures, leading politicians or diplomats whose expert opinions and strategic vision on relevant topics could be regarded as a contribution to both Bulgarian and international political and diplomatic thought and practice.
Fora, Conferences, Competitions - The Diplomatic Institute organises and is an active participant in a number of fora, conferences and round tables as well as other activities related to various matters of importance to Bulgarian Foreign Policy and Diplomatic Service. The Diplomatic Institute maintains an active network of contacts with universities and secondary schools. It is engaged in the annual organisation of national essay writing competitions on topical issues in the field of foreign policy.
Publishing - In 2008 the Diplomatic Institute started issuing the analytical magazine Diplomacy. It is a bilingual edition targeting a wide audience of readers - MFA officials (including the Bulgarian diplomatic missions overseas) and other public institutions, partner organisations of the Diplomatic Institute - Bulgarian and international institutes, civil society and government organisations, scientific research centres, tertiary educational institutions, the media and individual representatives of public opinion. The Diplomatic Institute publishes textbooks and brochures containing materials from the forums and conferences organized by the Institute as well as the works of renowned foreign diplomats and leaders.
Library - For the purposes of promoting its activities and programmes the Diplomatic Institute maintains a publicly accessible library which specializes in, processes and provides specialized literature in the field of International Relations, European Integration, Security Issues, International Organisations, Diplomacy, Law, History, Sociology, Political Science, Economy, etc. The library has a collection of approximately 5000 titles - mainly in English, French, German, and Russian as well as other foreign languages. Following the decision of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from the summer of 2010 the Diplomatic Institute was entrusted with the Ministry's book collection which contains over 60 000 volumes in more than 20 different languages.
Internship programme - The Diplomatic Institute strives to incorporate Bulgarian students into the world of International Relations and Diplomacy. The programme’s objective is to aid participants in gaining specific practical skills and providing them with experience in an actual working environment.

Albanian Diplomatic Academy has been focused since at the beginning in three main priorities: research, publishing and training projects. In the field of research our intention has been concentrated on national, regional, European and global issues. Mainly dealing with Albanian integration into EU and NATO, the Balkan crisis and its European perspective, Kosovo final status solution, Regional relations, EU laws and institutions, US role and contribution in getting new world order etc. In the field of publishing, The Albanian Diplomatic Academy has published three volumes of the History of Albanian Diplomacy and a lot of books about history of diplomacy, economic diplomacy, public diplomacy, international law and international organizations, identity and image of nations in the modern world etc.
Training has constantly been priority of the Albanian Diplomatic Academy. We have three projects under way: Three months training course on international relations and diplomacy,”Leadership and Crisis Management” training course and Diplomatic Summer School. All are at post-university level. The curricula, lectors, level of training and diploma are in accordance with The International Forum on Diplomatic Training, international academic forum in which The Albanian Diplomatic Academy has been admitted since 2002. The Albanian Diplomatic Academy provides training interactively and in distance learning, using the advantages of it.
In developing its academic profile, the Albanian Diplomatic Academy has established very close cooperation with diplomatic academies from all over the world, with universities of international laws and international relations, with specialized institutes and well-known NGO’s. This international partnership has brought very positive impact in modernizing and updating the standards of our academy.

DiploFoundation (Diplo) offers special diplomatic training aimed at professionals working in ministries of foreign affairs (MFAs), and diplomatic academies and institutions. Diplo’s online courses offer a practical solution for working diplomats and others involved in international relations to keep on top of the latest developments in diplomatic studies, while remaining on-the-job.
Courses can be taken for a certificate issued by DiploFoundation, for academic credits from the University of Malta, or as part of the Masters/Postgraduate Diploma in Contemporary Diplomacy offered in collaboration with the University of Malta.
Training methodology: Diplo’s online training is distinctive in that it uses a collaborative approach to online teaching and learning, involving a high level of interaction with course faculty and other participants. No travel is required: reading materials, learning activities, and tools for interaction are provided through an online classroom. Courses require 10 weeks of part-time online study, 6–8 hours per week.

Diplo is a non-profit foundation based in Malta, with offices in Geneva and Belgrade. It provides highly interactive and engaging training on diplomacy and global governance. In 2015, Diplo trained 504 participants from 127 countries, mainly small and developing states. One of the main strengths of Diplo is its effective capacity-development programme combining learning, policy research, and policy immersion.
Diplo has Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and plays an important role in a number of global networks and initiatives, including the Internet Governance Forum, the International Forum on Diplomatic Training, and the European Diplomatic Training Initiative.
