Please note that successful candidates who have not yet completed their PhD will be appointed on Grade 7 (£35,775 - £42,060 per annum inclusive of London Allowance), and regraded to Grade 8 on successful completion of their PhD.
This post is fixed-term until 26th July 2018 in the first instance.
The role and its responsibilities:
You will provide high quality research and teaching in degree and non-degree courses, and be expected to contribute to CISD’s research portfolio. You will be required to lead in the developing and preparation of materials and assessment of students at all levels, with specific responsibility for provision, planning and teaching for online Masters programmes based within the Centre. In addition to this, you will contribute management of CISD’s online course portfolio.
Skills and experience:
The ideal candidate will be educated to PhD level and demonstrate strong plans for the REF within the context of the Centre as a research hub. With the ability to design and deliver high quality teaching and assessment to students registered to the contracted online course(s) at an advanced level, you will be able to set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students, ensuring that the content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives.
You will also challenge thinking, foster debate and develop the ability of students to engage in critical discourse and rational thinking in subject disciplines related to CISD’s field of study alongside other departments in SOAS, working in partnership to deliver online programmes. Advanced skills and knowledge in overseeing organisation of the VLE and organising online and campus based training sessions are essential.

About the Centre of International Studies and Diplomacy:
The Centre is situated within the School of Interdisciplinary Studies and is staffed by academics drawn from the component parts of the School – the School of Law and the Departments of Economics for example. It has its own small Secretariat, and is answerable to the SOAS structures through the Head of the School of Interdisciplinary Studies.
